President's Letter

           President's Letter

Isn’t it amazing how fast this year is going by?  We are past the halfway point of the calendar year and a “New Year” for our chapter.  It is at this time of year we are afforded opportunities to look at things that have been done, should have been done, and that can be done—a checkpoint, if you will, to make sure we are on the right track to obtaining goals that we have set for ourselves both personally and professionally.  We get have a look-see at what has worked, what has not, and what changes can be made to have a more positive impact on our journey.

Funny word…change.  This one word “change” can evoke feelings of uneasiness in some and exhilaration in others.  Most of the time, change is pretty scary because we have to step out of our comfort zone and embrace something so totally foreign to us--something that challenges our conventional wisdom.  Just from life, we know that some changes are good and some not so much.  Even knowing this, we know that change is necessary in order not to become stagnate, complacent.  Change is a fundamental part of growth—growth that we experience daily in our personal and professional lives.  Growth that makes us strive to be better.  It is change that stimulates our growth and that fuels our passion.  Oftentimes, we learn somewhere along the journey that the anticipation was greater than the actual event.

With the “ringing in of the New Year,” the IAAP’s 2010 Education Forum and Annual Meeting took place in Boston, MA.  There were many new and exciting things to learn, ideas to be shared, and new friendships to be made.  It was learned at the Business Session about upcoming changes to the certification and recertification processes.  You will find out more at the chapter meeting on August 10, 2010.

Attending this yearly event is beneficial to members, new and seasoned, because of the educational workshops, Office Expo, and the insight gained into the how and why things are done.  Next year’s Education Forum will be held in Montreal, Quebec.  It was figured that if you wanted to go, start saving $4.00 a day and your trip would be almost paid for.  So, if you are considering going, get your passport, learn some French, and start filling those piggybanks!

Have a great month!

Until next time,

GLORY
